review 1: I kind of believed this was going to be a thriller, some kind of detection, which it isn't, exactly, but it is a very fascinating book. I especially like the first half; some of the incorporation of medical science in the second half got slightly clunky. What fascinates me most is our narrator, and how suspicious I am of her, and how unlikable I find her, and how even to the end I am mistrustful. Excellent.
review 2: Moved so quickly for the first half then dragged to the end. Recommend for book clubs since there is plenty to discuss (agree/disagree with characters' actions, how reliable the narrator is, what the heck was going on?) but can foresee some book clubbers not finishing the book. I agree with other reviewers that the Scandinavian tone can be odd/c... moreonfusing but think it is just another interesting book club discussion point. less
