review 1: Great fun book which requires reader involvement. We follow a tree through the seasons, and the reader is asked to tap, rub, knock, jiggle, and shake the tree to effect changes…growing leaves, budding flowers, picking apples, making snow fall. Even though I read this to a fairly large group, everyone could be involved with a tap or knock and it didn't take my audience long to anticipate the changes on the next page. One of the instructions is to blow the tree a tiny kiss…so that is my justification for including this in a Valentine story time.
review 2: In rhyming text, readers are encouraged to make magic by tapping, jiggling, wiggling, and shaking a tree. I don't know that I particularly like the idea of calling it magic, but I did like how the tree st... morearts off with bare limbs, and then first one leaf, then more, and even more, fill its limbs. readers can trace seasonal changes as first green leaves and petals appear, then apples, then yellow leaves signaling the coming of autumn, and then bare limbs hung with mounds of snow. Patient readers will see that spring brings new life as they note that the tree now has a nest and green leaves again. The simple collage illustrations are attractive and fit the story text quite well. less
