review 1: I really, really liked this book. I know, I should never begin a review that way, but honestly...historical romance is full of a lot of the same things, it is hard to differentiate one book from the next sometimes. While the cast of characters seems fairly common-the dashing-yet-reckless rake and the prim maiden, a handful of well-to-do earls and dukes who live as they please, and the occasional drunken family member-this story is actually really entertaining. Jonathon, the Earl of Davenport, has a great reason for his apparent image, and Hilary deVere does a marvelous job of getting herself hitched to a man she initially despises (isn't that always the way?)The story had a good pace to it, and I finished this book in about 3 days, which is a standard time frame for a bed b... moreook for me. I will be adding Christina Brooke to my list of authors I want to read more of!
review 2: Disappointing....I thought I would like it much more than I did. Jonathan was not anything like he seemed in Cecily's story. Then he was gaunt and tired of hiding. He should have had more to him than just a "wild" reputation. They really should have been some "angst". Hilary was definitely not my favorite heroine. She didn't strike me as a woman who would be able to hold her own with a scientist of his caliber. Yet she had taught at a school, but she was so immature and things that were so dumb. Even the ending was flat. Hopefully the next book will be better. less

Boring and couldn't finish it. And I didn't like the hero or the heroine. Sorry.
