Lady Evelyn Thorne is engaged to the very suitable Duke of Aldric when a shocking truth is revealed - and now Sam will play every bit of the devil to seduce the woman he thought would always be denied him. Spoiler: They have been raised as brother and sister, but he is part of Aldric's family. In truth, I could not muster up a liking for Evelyn. The story's ending is only mildly satisfying. The plot does not build consistently to the climax and resolution.
review 2: Overall, very well-done characters but the pacing was a bit slow for my p... moreersonal taste.Sam as the hero was really complex and tortured, and his medical profession was fascinating. He's masculine and appealing and completely swoon-worthy.Evie as the heroine was exactly his match. She's feisty, adventurous, and she loves the healing profession as much as he does. They fit like peas in a pod.There was a point where I thought Sam should have told Evie what her father had lied to Sam about, and that's why I docked this book a star. I personally tend to dislike the "misunderstanding" plot point, although I know there are a lot of Regency readers who enjoy that.The pacing seemed a bit slow because of the "misunderstanding" between hero and heroine. Because I thought some of the conflict could have been resolved sooner, it seemed the storyline dragged at one point a little bit, but the ending was very satisfying and sweet. I even liked the "villain" of the piece, the perfect Duke. :)Overall, a well-executed story, and definitely something to try if you like the story premise.Thanks to Netgalley and Harlequin for the e-ARC of this book. less
