review 1: I occasionally like to do a bit of light reading here and there, so I decided to sit down and read a book that I'd picked up at a library sale. I wasn't expecting it to be a masterpiece by any stretch of the word, but I was hoping for something at least functionally entertaining. Unfortunately, The Hunt for the Seventh wasn't even that. The main character didn't seem to do much in the story. It felt like he was shepherded from place to place, making connections between clues and areas, walking there, and then having things happen to him. The book ends up feeling more like a sightseeing tour than an adventure. The little sister isn't particularly well-written either. She reads like someone twice her age. Exacerbating the problem is the author's decision to characterize her as... more annoying and condescending, so an already badly written character becomes almost insufferable. The dealbreaker, however, came near the very end of the book. After an admittedly interesting plot twist reveals that one character had been dead all along it's subsequently revealed that his father (who is previously characterized as a jerk rather than an outright psychopath) had killed him. Why did his father kill him? Because, to paraphrase the book, "He never liked him and thought he was an idiot."It was like the author just came up with the "dead son" plot point because she thought it'd be a shocking twist and then tried to justify it, instead turning an already flat character into a cartoonishly evil villain. It was such a stupid, cop-out motive that I just couldn't bring myself to read the last ten or so pages.
review 2: *****SPOILER ALERT***** Do you like mysterious,Spooky, adventure books? If you do you should try reading this book. The genre of this book is Mystery and Fantasy. I did not like this book because it was boring he kept witnessing the same thing and had to keep on sneaking out to find the clues. The setting of this book takes place in Minerva, and in the town. Jim's mom died so Jim his sister Sally and his dad Move to Ancient Minerva. So as soon as he gets there some ghosts keep on whispering to him find the seventh. Then he finds a friend who is Lord henry but he doesn't know that he calls him Einstein he helps him a lot to find clues but he Autistic. Jim goes around trying to find clues. But then he starts to witness the deaths of the Minerva children. He sees how they died whenever he goes to his/her statue. There were six that died Harriet, Oswald, Nellie, Edwina, Thomas, Beatrice. They all died very strangely and on every 30 years of a solstice. So he realizes he only has to the solstice to find the seventh Minerva child. Time is running out and he still doesn't know who the seventh is. Jim got caught on the security cameras more than once and that costs his dad his job. So basically everyone hates Jim right now. Later his dad grounds him and he cant leave his room but again Jim sneaks out he now only has 1 hour left to find everything. He later gets taken by Blind Meg down into the ocean and Jim sees a body and its Einstein. So blind meg takes him back up and he realizes what to do and then he saves the town. The conflict is person vs society because he has trouble with other people. I was angry when Jim's dad got fired. I was surprised when he lifted the stone to save the town. A theme of this book is family because Jim try's to save his family. The point of view of the story is first person point of view I know this because Jim tells the story. The authors purpose is to entertain. I thought the ending of the book was good because the whole book was boring until the end. My favorite was when Jim saw Einstein dead and he found the seventh. I did not like this book because it bored me so much I wanted to burn the book. I wish that Einstein would have never died. If I were the author I would have made the book more interesting. I hated this book because it was so boring. I would rate this book a 3 because it was so boring. I would recommend this book to people who like mystery book. Would you have the courage to find the seventh? less
