review 1: Interesting perspective on what the world will look like as gas prices rise from $4 per gallon to $8, $10, $12, and eventually $20 per gallon. Unfortunately, the author takes the stance that we are destroying the world today by using gas and oil and so a $20 per gallon world will be much better because we'll all have to live in dense urban centers and won't have to travel. Certainly was more of a social, political agenda celebration than an objective take on what could happen and what might actually not be so great about expensive oil.According to the author, we should already have $6 gas prices now and it's just the beginning.
review 2: An interesting perspective on how lives will change in the US as petrol prices inevitably rise. Although I agree with his m
... moreain thesis - that life will have to change quite drastically - He doesn't spend enough time talking about alternative energy sources. Nevertheless, the book examines changes to so many aspects of modern life that people take for granted: big houses in the burbs, the use of the car killing public transport, rural depopulation, the rise of Walmart and obesity. Very convincing arguments are made for these trends reversing. less

Some people hate it when the price of gas goes up but I welcome it for all the reasons in this book.

Gloriously optimistic given the thunderclouds on the horizon.
