review 1: Scarlett O'Hara is 35 years old and a wedding planner who is great at her job. She is the daughter of two actors, and has basically raised herself on her own, with some help form Phyllis, the O'Hara's housekeeper. Scarlett is always punctual, if not early and has her life planned out. She's great at what she does and has a great boyfriend, John. They are very similar. So when John says he's leaving to go buid villages in Brazil and doesn't ask her to go with him, Scarlett lets him go with out a fuss. She instead goes out, gets drunk, and sleeps with a stranger. So when she doesn't get her period and finds out she's pregnant, she's at a loss at what to do next. And in walks in her one night stand, "Red", as the fiance of the client she needs to get her desired promot... moreion. This book was great. Even though it wasn't a mystery as to what was going to happen next in the book, there were one or two twists that I did not see coming. Ciara does a great job at keeping the father of Scarlett's baby under wraps. It isn't until the last page that you find out his identity, and even then you have to be reading very closely to figure it out. I will definitely be adding Ciara Geraghty on my list of authors to read and keep an eye on in the future!
review 2: Being my first chick-lit book, I don't know at first how I would rate this. There was a bombardment of 'heavy' reading in my part: of thrillers, horrors and in-depth historical fiction. I was somehow a bit disappointed by the rather 'mundane' flow and lack of serious plot. "Would give it nothing more than a 4 Stars rating" I told myself. Then, came the typical Good Ending - which surprised me because the majority of books that I've read lack this stuff (modern writings I guess). It was good enough for me to forget that almost the entire part of the book was something that 'bore' me. The reward was better than the journey. An irony for me because I always thought that book-reading is something of which the progression of the story is more important than the conclusion. Not here - and I was surprised myself. Then again, I was trying to compare potatoes and tomatoes. A different book genre must not be judged similarly as others.--------------------------THE STORY: Scarlett O'Hara suddenly discovered that she was pregnant. And she has no idea who the father is. Being an event planner who always put things in order, this was something unexpected. Trying to put things back where they where, she ended up going the other way. Love comes in unexpected places and time - a central theme of this book. This is a book that shall make you laugh more than you cry. There were many silly and impromptu references that tried to tickle me - but I was more devastated by the idea of a women going through pregnancy unexpectedly. And I guess I developed a fond liking for the book due to the numerous (and positive) mention of nurses.Lots and lots (and accurate) description of how a women would go through pregnancy - which was even more than I knew myself. Scarlett's love for her unborn child is also something worth mentioning. I am so sure that this book will appeal more to women due to the connection of experience.--------------------------Will I read another book of the same kind again? That I dunno. Lack of action and fact-ridden plot kinda turned me off (wrong book!), but I like the fact that never did I fired up my computer to search for the meaning of a word, nor did I Googled for some data on something. It's a great change. If you wanna be entertained with laughter, this is a good book. less
