review 1: 3 stars (or rather 2.9 stars)My first Cindy Gerard, and book two of the Black Ops series. It left an odd taste in my mouth; the I-think-I’m-missing-something taste. It starts off simple enough; Abbie is a cards dealer in Vegas who works with her friend Crystal. Abbie’s brother Cory (who had quite the abusive childhood) has a tendency of getting mixed up in dumb shit. Now he finds himself in Honduras stuck in deep shit. In comes the Black Ops crew, an ex-military misfits who have specialties for everything, with Sam in the lead looking to avenge the death of his sister. Our key player of the evening is Frederick Nader; he has killed Sam’s sister, hiered Cory as a mule, and looking to get even with Abbie – because of Cory. But don’t think that the two events are re... morelated; Nader killed Sam’s sister because Sam got too close, Nader is holding Cory hostage, and going after Abbie due to a pretty set of diamonds that he (Nader) stole from Desmond Fox (another baddie). Now this kinda spoiled things; because the first 100pgs could be summed up easily in one paragraph it could be seen as a spoiler, until you read it and you realize that you spend so much time in back story and literary foreplay that by the time you get to the actual action (bombs, death, sex, and lies) you wonder what you just spent 100pgs reading – or at least this is how I felt. I’ll try the next one on for size and see how it works, but I’m off to Gerard’s Bodyguard’s series.
review 2: Take No Prisoners is the second book in Ms. Gerard's Black's Ops. series. It is a good, fast-paced story containing humor, danger and lots of sexual chemistry. The two main characters are Sam Lang and Abbie Hughes. They meet when Abbie's brother comes under suspicion of stealing a priceless necklace in Honduras. Sam suspects Abbie of being in on her brother's criminal activites. Little do they know that they will fall for each other and this causes comlplications. The book has a good ending and the reader gets to see some of the recurring characters in the series who will eventually all get their on stories. I would recommend this book and the others in this series. less
