review 1: Very fast-paced and interesting. Never a boring moment in Cindy Gerrard's books, I suppose. ;) Wasn't a big fan of the heroine at first (thought she was a prick, unappreciative, and too cynical for my taste). I think her background story did not provide sufficient justification towards her mistrust of men, especially when she started channeling that anger to poor Luke. Also hated how she kept whining about needing to be in control, but never did anything to prove that she could actually take charge. But she did kinda grow on me, especially when she started the gun training, refusing to be a victim anymore.
review 2: I feel I should start with a disclaimer. I was sick when I read this book so its possible that is what lead to my less-than-pleased opinion. The st... moreory line was entirely too unbelievable. People like Angelina Jolie don't just set out on their own in foreign countries just because they want to discover themselves. But I could overlook that part. What bothered me was how pathetic Luke sounded when he talked about being a lifetime fan. It just stripped away his badassness to me. He's been on mission after mission, almost dying but he managed to keep up with her career and divorce? Get real!And I never felt connected to Valentina. She was wishy washy throughout the story and just useless to me. Her childhood trauma felt like it was added as an afterthought. She watched Luke kill a man to save her but she still has doubts he's on her side? I don't know. Just overall the story felt rushed, cold, and poorly thrown together. However, everyone else's reviews were stellar so I'm chalking this up to being sick and forging ahead to read Joe's story. Hoping its better. less
