review 1: I am always looking for a good Christian based teen/YA book and this caught my attention. I liked the aspect of seeing the relationship develop from two different points of views. The romance/sexual tension was played up quite a bit for quote-unquote, a "Christian book." Now that's okay, but it seemed to be the driving force for Caleb and Kate to want to be together. Along of course with the "forbidden fruit" aspect of Caleb being from the wrong side of the tracks. What kept me from rating it higher, was the spiritual aspect was just kind of thrown in there. Also their romance, which was primarily based upon physical lust, was compared to a biblical love.I found that comparison to be a little disconcerting. However, the writing was very good and descriptive, as I could se... moree every scene in my mind. Overall, I like it. But if you are looking for a "Christian" YA romance novel, this isn't it.
review 2: Watch out Romeo and Juliet here comes Caleb and Kate. This book is pretty much a modern day version of the beloved tale of Romeo and Juliet. Of course they have similar struggles of forbidden love but Caleb + Kate still holds its own. Coming from two completely different lives; Kate being a rich heiress of a hotel owner and Caleb who works as part of the grounds crew still manages to fall in love. Despite all the money Kate is very down to earth and kind to everyone. She is very aware of how fortunate she is and seems to be very humble about her status. Caleb being the laid back surfer has no interest fitting into her life. When Caleb’s unexpected feelings causes trouble for his future he seems to grow and become his own person putting their family feud aside. This book was super cute and great but unfortunately it fell victim to my picky-ness. [it was one of those I wanted to read an angsty romance when what I got was a sweet innocent love story]. With that aside it was sweet and a fast read for a summer day. less
