BBC One confirms transmission date for Hard Sun

Neil Cross is the man behind Luther – the Idris Elba-starring, global crime behemoth – and we’ve known for a while that his next project was to be a dystopian crime drama starring Jim Sturgess and Aygness Deyn. It sounds really interesting and worth tuning in for and is set to be one of the treats in the early weeks of 2018. We now know when it’ll start.

Here’s the lowdown on the six-part series, which, I’ve been told, will be available in its entirety on iPlayer.

Charlie Hicks (Sturgess) and Elaine Renko (Deyn) are detectives who, whilst investigating a murder in the inner city, stumble upon proof that the world faces certain destruction – in five years.

It’s a terrifying reality that the British government is trying urgently to suppress.

Hicks and Renko find themselves pursued by ruthless Security Service operatives, who are trying to kill them in order to keep secret the truth about the mysterious cosmic event.

The pair must use every bit of their ingenuity to protect themselves and those they love.

Hard Sun: Saturday 6th January, 9.35pm, BBC One
