review 1: CJ has a beautiful way with words that makes you fall in love with the characters in the story. Whether it's a hot sex scene or the shy flirtations between men, this reader felt the passion pour through her words. They brought a stirring to my heart...and other 'delicate' parts. ;-)It was wonderful to read a book where the characters of the gay male strippers were not defined solely by their job; and it helped to create a beautiful family amongst some of the main characters, all who truly loved each other.I would've given it five stars, but the story was a tad too predictable for me; however, it didn't stop me from reading it to justify my predictions. And I'm looking forward to seeing how Abel and Devlin will evolve in book 2.
review 2: In all honesty, I'm gi
... moreving this 3.5 stars. The story itself is good, albeit somewhat predictable through the foreshadowing. Most readers can see exactly where Able's back story is going and what the main conflict will be; just go with it.I found myself more in love with supporting characters Gabe and Cole than the main protagonist, Able or his love interest, Declan. Gabe and Cole are just fun, and who wouldn't want them around? It was a good read, and not a waste of time. But I did have a few issues with the book:1) All the damned crying. Lord. Able cries all the time. After a while, it loses it's power and you're reading the scene and thinking "I hope he invests in Kleenex." Cause if he does, he's got it made.2) The word 'Gouge' is used repeatedly by the author; and not correctly. Or at least not in a visually pleasing way in your minds eye. Gouge, by definition, means scoop, scrape, dig. It's repeatedly used in reference to how someone grasps something. It's supposed to infer that they're "digging their fingers in", but no one can really gouge a leather chair. They can grasp firmly, but gouge makes me think they're making holes in something. Prereaders or an editor should have caught the repetitiveness of the word and suggested something different, especially in those places a different word would have made more sense.3) The author repeatedly uses "..." to create a dramatic pause in places where no pause is needed, or it's just in an awkward placement. It gets beyond annoying, and since it's in the wrong place, the characters begin to sound like William Shatner in my head. "Able...make...me...cum." You can get the idea. (Side note: I've finished book 2 and am happy to report the author has corrected both of these quirks.)My biggest and by far the complaint is that there are 3 books in Abel's story and - based on the length of each (less than 150 pages) - it could have been one continuous book.I felt trapped. Tricked into buying the next two books. Let's face it, the ending is inevitable, and I could probably write it. But I want to see how the author develops the story and the characters (Update: I am on book 3 and am pleasantly pleased with some of the development I'm seeing.). It's a good story, and well written (aside from the items above); but I felt taken advantage of. Why leave cliff hangers and drag me back into the story through another book, when you're not even giving me 200+ pages to start with. That's just my personal beef; many people are not nearly as offended by the short story cliff hanger as I am.I may buy more from this author. I definitely have seen growth in the writing. Though the stories aren't all that deep and perhaps a little predictable, they're still a fun read with good sexy times. And really, I will probably miss Gabe and Cole. less
