review 1: This book made me feel a bit like I was reading someone's journal, turned into a novel. There is nothing the matter with this book. It follows the formula for a good Christian fiction. For me, it just lacked a bit of tension and excitement, which would keep me turning the pages and reading well into the night. It took me several nights to read this, as I was picking it up for an hour here, an hour there. But it was a nice story, worth reading, and had a good message.I really liked reading the question/answer interview with the author in the back of the book. She sounds like a sweet, energetic, knowledgeable person. And that "voice" comes through in her story as well.
review 2: I won this book through a Goodreads giveaway and I'll admit I was very skeptical at f... moreirst as this is not the type of book I normally go for. I am very glad I decided to give it a chance anyway. I absolutely loved this book. From about 30 pages in I was hooked and I got more and more sucked into the story the longer I read.The writing style makes for an easy read without coming across as too simplistic. The characters are unique, complex, and interesting (Not to mention the fact they have a ton of heart). The plot is both both gripping and at times heartwarming. The most notable aspect of this novel for me, however, was the author's use of religion. Darlington sends a message and while that message is made very obvious within the context of the story, she seems to know just when to pull back so that readers do not feel like it is being shoved down their throat.If the description sounds at all interesting to you, I encourage you to go ahead and give this book a chance. I found it to be very enjoyable and well worth the time spent reading it. less
