review 1: I really enjoyed this book, which means I will have check out more Claire Cook books! This book was about working woman who took a buyout at her job and with her neighbors who she didn't know started a walking group. It is about their new friendship, their personal lives and struggles, and the way they work through their problems together and apart to discover a better part of themselves that they didn't know they had. I enjoy this book because it was a funny, light and easy read with some normal nice characters.
review 2: Noreen is downsized out of her athletic shoe company and finds herself adrift. She eventually bonds with two neighbors and they begin walking together and talking about their lives. The women are prickly and not all that likeable. Noreen tr
... moreies to be Switzerland and ends up being wishy washy. The women live on divided farm land that was once a large lavender farm. The daughter of the original owner still maintains a small lavender farm, so Noreen becomes obsessed with lavender. The other woman is one of those super-martyrs who tries to save the world (while her teen daughter heads down questionable paths). The martyr woman is crazed about a teacher (Anna Lisa, Anna Lisa, Anna Lisa – a name I used to like until I heard it whined over and over again in this audio version) in far-off post-hurricane New Orleans. The martyr woman constantly tries to rope the other two into all kinds of charity toward the teacher and her class, but martyr woman wants to make sure that only she gets the credit. Turns out teacher also has cancer, so that really revs up martyr woman. MW became too, too annoying after a while and I would have dumped her like a bad carton of milk. But Noreen and lavender farmer generally go along with martyr woman. I got to admit, I kept hoping they would learn that New Orleans teacher was a scam and they had been duped. Noreen’s love life was a bit too “high school” for me (why didn’t he call me? He said he would call me…etc) Tiresome. My favorite characters in the book were Rod Stewart and the Supremes (a rooster and flock of hens). A generally okay diversion. Kinda like spending the summer with people who are available instead of people you really like. less
