review 1: I like Claire Cook's books - well written, strong characters, quick and fun reads. And I like that many books has the main character being very into something and she does her research so you learn a bit. But this one was not so good. The main character was basically well crafter but I did not find her likeable or someone to cheer for. She did a few nice things but I found her self centered to a bad degree. And the whole thing about her "assembling" food but never cooking drove.me.insane. But? I'll read any other book she writes.
review 2: Got a little preachy at times but these feel a bit like Jeanne Ray's books. Older people (as in, not young, rich and gorgeous) who are married continue to be happily married. There are issues to overcome and new kinks in th... moree road, but the end result is the same. Interesting characters, real-life situations, standard fantasies of "what if" and an enjoyable story that made me blow through this really quickly. Made myself not pick up the next Claire Cook book in the house to not go through the library's collection too quickly. less
