review 1: Time Flies by Claire Cook repeatedly compares itself to the movie Thelma and Louise to the point where I think this story is attempting to echo that movie. And so, if you liked the movie Thelma and Louise, I would say you would probably like Time Flies as well. However, I personally felt this book was about a couple of women going through a midlife crisis... chasing dreams instead of appreciating the reality right in front of them. It seemed as if these two women were still stuck in high school, both in terms of mentality and maturity even though they were both middle aged. I spent the vast majority of the book exasperated at the two women's immaturity.
review 2: I love Claire Cook's books - Must Love Dogs is one of my favorite books, and so is Life's a Beach. ... moreTime Flies is now at the top of my list - loved it and the strengths and weaknesses of Melanie, the main character, and her imperfect best friend from high school, B.J. It's time for an unnamed high school reunion, and Melanie, newly separated from her high school boyfriend turned husband of long standing decides she should fly home to Boston to attend. She and B.J. are on the road to the re-discovery of who they were in high school and are experiencing the truth that time does fly. There are profound words of wisdom in this book, and Claire gives voice to some of every woman's uncertainties with life and aging. Full of great insights - this is a total must read. And as a side note? The ongoing playlist itself will transport the reader to times past...Glory Days, if you will! Thank you, Claire Cook for writing this book! less
