Sunny & Shadow Mystery
review 1: The third in the Sunny and Shadow mystery series - a cozy who-done-it. Sunny Collidge's cantankerous boss, Ollie Barnstable, stopped to help an injured deer and got hit by a car. Ending up with a shattered leg, Ollie is put in a rehab center/nursing home to recuperate. His roommate, Gardner Scatterwell, turns out to be a rich womanizer and is found unexpectedly dead in his bed one night. After hearing some suspicious talking behind Scatterwell's curtain that night, Ollie asks Sunny and her constable boyfriend, Will Price, to investigate what he considers a murder. The police think Scatterwell just had another stroke and give them a week to find evidence of a murder. There are rehab animals at the facility including Portia, the cat. Shadow becomes very affectionate t... moreowards Sunny whenever she comes home from the rehab center, because he smells a She cat on her. The smell has him unnerved, and he wants nothing but to find the She cat that belongs to that intoxicating smell. Portia has an uncanny ability of getting very close to patients right before they die which spooks the patients. Of course, there are many suspects including Alfred, Scatterwell's nephew who inherits the fortune; Warner, security at the facility; Luke, a guitar-playing therapist with a secret; nasty Dr. Gravrik, his doctor; Elsa, the therapist that Scatterwell was hitting on and feeling up; and Dr. Reese, Scatterwell's school-mate and also administrator at the facility. What I like about this series is that Shadow is just a cat. He doesn't do extraordinary things to show Sunny who the murderer is or help her solve the case. He's just there in the background doing cat things and having cat thoughts. Think of Sunny as a much younger Jessica Fletcher of small-town Cabot Cove only Sunny lives in Kittery Harbor, Maine. A fun and whimsical amateur sleuth story.
review 2: Last Licks by Claire Donally is the third book in the Sunny and Shadow Mystery series. This particular outing in the series had a really interesting Shadow part of the story, in fact I would say it overshadowed the rest of the book. In this book, Sunny’s boss Oliver is injured and ends up in a rehab facility where a murder or at least suspected murder occurs. Sunny investigates with the help of Will and seems to more or less stumble upon the culprit after uncovering other mysteries. I did enjoy it and would continue with the series, I just found books one and two stronger. less

This title was better and a little more plausible. Some detective work was done.
