review 1: For a spontaneous purchase from the 99p sale at the Kindle Store, I am surprised to say how much I enjoyed this book. Ridgway has devoted her life to thorough research about Anne Boleyn and the Tudors and although sometimes I felt I was receiving a slightly biased interpretation of events, I think the author herself recognises this too. I wasn't too impressed with one of the first chapters which wasn't very complimentary about the work of my favourite Philippa Gregory, although I know historical fiction isn't everybody's cup of tea. However, I liked the consistent use of source evaluation throughout the book and found out things I never had heard of before (such as Anne of Cleves and Katherine Howard having a lesbian affair?!). I would be interested to read more of Ridgewa... morey's work, although I found that because this was a collection of articles, things could get quite repetitive. An interesting read though.
review 2: I don't even know if I should even out it as read or give it a rating cause I couldn't even get through it. I was going into this book knowing very little about Anne Boleyn and came out (the few short chapters I read) still trying to figure out what she is talking about. First I don't like other authors talking bad about another novel. Just plain childish! And than she goes on talking about the facts? Really? Was she there? I couldn't keep up with the myths and her "facts" to much to. I didn't like it! Poor writing and it didn't flow. She was all over the place. Thank gods it was a free book or I would complain worst than I am! less
