review 1: This book reminded me of how fortunate I am to live in a society were women are free and equal. Reading this book kind of made me mad because every time I here men saying women can't do this or that it just irritates me. But just like Bessie in the story she was mad to that they lost the vote her mom told her not to worry everyone falls down just get back up and keep trying! Thats the most important message in the book I think, and just seeing the history and how far we've come as a country is inspiring!
review 2: Based on the life of Bessie Keith Pond, who came from a family of suffragists, this historical picture book is excellent for giving children some insight into the struggle for women's rights. I think this could be a great book for helping little boys
... more, especially, see and understand some of the ways that their sisters might still be treated differently even now (there are several comments from Bessie's brothers about how girls aren't smart or strong enough to do various things). less

I liked the visible brushstrokes in the illustrations. The information pages at the end were nice.
