Someday Quilts Mysteries
review 1: The basic story—strangers with secrets, friends helping each other, murder and a budding romance or two is fine. What I am less happy with is the strong element of our intrepid heroine can solve mysteries on her own, even resorting to several crimes to do so. It is straining my patience and her purported romance with the police chief. One more book in this series and I will be making a decision about placing it on my “Do Not Read” list.
review 2: Nell Fitzgerald is a young woman living with her Grandmother, Eleanor while she attends art school. Grandmother owns a wonderful quilting store with fabrics, implements, and in-store classes. Nell has a tendency to give a hand to the local police in solving crimes in their small town of Archer's Rest. This time
... more the crimes hit close to Nell. During her first date with the Chief of Police, Jesse, he is called out for a suspicious drowning. Nell tags along. I found this part refreshing, as she gets more insider knowledge than in other series.Next, she is having a dinner (since the date was a disaster,) with Jesse, her Grandmother and Oliver White, Nell's Painting teacher and famous artist that has an eye towards Eleanor, and a border/new friend/also an art student, Kennette. Kennette takes the dog for a walk and doesn't come home when the dog, Barney, does. This family 'dinner' gets interrupted with a call to Jesse, another young woman in the water. The victim is also a student in the Oliver White Art Class.Nell, and the quilting group (lovely good friends,) have to find the killer and prove it isn't Oliver before Eleanor gets her heart broken, or worse yet...she dies! This book felt believable. Most persons wouldn't take in homeless Kennette, but other than that, I liked the interaction of the town and quilting friends/customers. I will read her next book and check out book number one which I missed. less
