review 1: 8/10This book kind of snuck up on me. At the beginning, I wasn't loving the writing and wasn't really into the story, but slowly the mystery of Manifest slowly pulled me in. Vanderpool does a great job of keeping various mysteries going throughout the story that, of course, all come together in the end. What really makes this book good though is her use of nostalgia. I came to realize that Moon Over Manifest is less about the main character, Abilene, and more about the two boys living in the town 20 years earlier, Ned and Jinx. This allows Vanderpool to give us emotional ties to character's at a younger age and, without giving away too much, allows her to wrap things up nicely at the end. I would have given it five stars if it was written slightly better or grabbed m... morey attention more at the beginning.
review 2: This book is great from students who are interested in history. Many impacting historical events are talked about in this book. Abilene a young girl growing up during the great depression, struggles to live life without her father. The author takes you on a journey through her life and the events going on. The author does a great job presenting realistic fiction to the reader. Children could have experienced trails like this and know what it feels like. less
