review 1: The audio is spectacular and brings Early Auden to life, his flatness of speech and lack of emotion. But I wondered as I was listening, if children would "get" his character by reading. That was the only reason I gave this book a 4 instead of a 5. I loved everything about it. The writing is incandescent and luminous and the characters will live with me forever. Bravo, Clare Vanderpool, on another amazing read!
review 2: I was all set to give this book 5 stars because it is a unique and beautifully written story. Then, I listened to the author's commentary, and now I am very annoyed that Clare Vanderpool made up the sequences of numbers instead of actually following Pi, and there is no "empty space" in the numbers. Still, great writing. It just would have b... moreeen even better for me if she was actually writing around the number Pi. less
