review 1: Slightly less exciting than the first book, most likely because I had already been introduced to this authors twist on vampires, but a very enjoyable read. I like the subtle additions of steampunk in the European world and the idea that religion is a real source of help to people but is viewed as fanciful and frowned upon if others take it seriously. Interesting version of a post-apocalyptic world.
review 2: Have you ever been reading a book and then come to a part that was so good that you had to put the book down and just be excited about it for a minute before you could keep on reading? I must have done that a half-dozen times with The Rift Walker. I really liked the first book in this series, and I liked this one even more. On one hand I'm really looking... more forward to finishing the trilogy, but on the other hand I'm so fond of the characters and the world that I don't want it to be over. less
