review 1: Not a book to read if you don't like strong language and graphic descriptions of death and injury. But if you want a powerful story, vivid characterisations and fabulously rich turns of phrase, then this will keep you reading for hours. The language was just brilliant. I've no idea whether the turns of phrase are from regular Wyoming folk or were invented by the author, but I loved them - "tall enough to hunt geese with a rake", "as useful as a steering wheel on a mule" were two that stuck in my mind. There was an element of the paranormal in Gwen's premonitions of deaths which seemed inappropriate to me, as though it didn't quite fit in a tale that is otherwise firmly rooted in solid Wyoming soil. But maybe it was more of a mental disorder brought on by the abuse she suffer... moreed. That's a minor niggle though.
review 2: **Received from Goodreads First Reads giveawayWhen I first started reading the book, I wasn't sure that I liked it but I kept reading and I am glad that I did. The story is intersting with plenty of plot twist and turns. The characters back stories really captured my attention and I wanted to know more about them. The author did a great job of telling us about each character and their relationship to others bit by bit. I didn't like most of the characters, but we are not meant to like them. This is a very well thought out and nicely written book. less

This book was gruesome and violent, reminded me of a tarentino film. Not bad.
