review 1: Garstung has a wonderful talent for creating many voices with each of these stories. I loved the movement of characters in and out of the stories. Isn't that how life is? I loved the tension of the status of the condos in the neighborhood and the status of each character. The one problem I had with the stories was how easily the women fell in bed with the various men--another middle aged man's fantasy?

WHAT THE ZHANG BOYS KNOW gives us a glimpse into these lives, each one more enticing than the last, as the stories accumulate to ... moretell an intricate and multilayered tale of love and loss and the lingering effects of both. The enticing narrative pull of these stories left me feeling as if I were observing the mansion in a thunderstorm, each flash of lightning a story that briefly and brilliantly illuminates the fascinating lives behind its windows, with the final, climactic story its great crescendo. less
