review 1: This was an interesting little book and not what I expected. Two hundred short pages divided into 60 chapters, all from 2-4 pages long and each covering a separate topic or issue, e.g., “Chapter 22 Melting Ice Makes the Ocean Rise – but It’s not the Only Factor.”The NY Times review said “… it’s a book, written in the kind of plain English of which Strunk and White would approve, that lays out what we know about climate change while hewing to the facts and taking great care to avoid bias and hysteria.”It was an easy read that contained understandable facts and perspectives that one would like to have at your fingertips when discussing climate change with someone. I can imagine getting your own copy just for that purpose but the Climate Central website is hel... morepful that way as well. In any case it was refreshing to read something that made every effort to be neutral and stick to what is known and what is not. A very helpful read. Here’s what Climate Central says about itself:“Climate Central surveys and conducts scientific research on climate change and informs the public of key findings. Our scientists publish and our journalists report on climate science, energy, sea level rise, wildfires, drought, and related topics. Climate Central is not an advocacy organization. We do not lobby, and we do not support any specific legislation, policy or bill. Climate Central is a qualified 501(c)3 tax-exempt organization. “
review 2: Do I think this book is going to offer a lot of those well read in the subject of climate change? No. And that's the point of the book. It's supposed to be a clear and concise review of the science, in terms and language that the layperson can hopefully understand. For that reason, it's an invaluable resource to introduce students to the topic of climate change. The fact that the book is broken down into manageable mini-chapters helps, too. less
