Never Say Never
review 1: Warning: This is a cliffhangerThis is the story of college student Never, who is running from a past filled with betrayal and a present filled with sex with random men. Then she meets Ty McCabe and she finds out that he's got some pretty heavy stuff in his past (and present as well). This is not your traditional romance. Both of these characters have a lot of work to do which is painful to read. And their friendship is tenuous at best. But they recognize the flaws in each other and they need each other. This went deep into Never's character and I hope that we get to learn more about Ty in the subsequent books. I can't possible understand what this chick has gone through but she's strong and I loved reading about how she changes from this sad, broken young woman who think... mores she has no friends to a recovering addict. It's a silly thing, but I couldn't give this 5 stars because I just couldn't read about the smoking... and these characters smoke a lot, share cigarettes, etc. It's just gross.
review 2: This book was pretty good. It did take a while until the characters started to reveal themselves. I would have liked to know them a little earlier on. You still don't know everything by the end of book one. I have to say this isn't a happy romance book. It is raw and emotional, and I felt depressed the entire time reading it. Ty and Never, the two main characters, are both emotionally messed up and are hiding painful pasts. They meet each other and have a connection, recognizing each other's pain. They trust each other enough to confide in one another and become good friends. Sex gets in the way causing a problem at first. They fight and push each other away constantly. They overcome that and are even better friends and eventually realize they are in love with each other, but it is still not a HEA just yet. I do plan to read the next book. It was very well written with just a few grammar/editing issues that didn't interfere with enjoying the story. less
