review 1: I loved it! This book was so different from the MC series (which I also loved). Storyline was entertaining, well written, steamy and amusing. Found myself laughing thru-out the book and enjoyed the characters love/hate relationship. Characters had intense chemistry whether they were getting it on or not. I didn't really see the BDSM or the true desire for role reversal. I think that Lex was truly searching for an equal partner, someone who would tell him their desires and act on them. Would recommend.
review 2: *Warning: possible spoilers*Olivia (Oli) Ashcraft is a successful real estate agent in San Francisco. When her alpha male (ugh) boss storms into the lunchroom to give her a little what for, she doesn't back down. She gives it back, and then some. Oli HAT
... moreES alpha males (yay! me too!), doesn't do the dating thing, has her own place, says what's on her mind, doesn't back down to anyone-particularly men- and is always in control. I love her. I LOVE you Oli! You're exactly like me! Oh and a redhead like me, too ;)Alexander (Lex) Lyndon is your typical CEO alpha male douche bag sexist prick. Or is he? It seems he hates the weak little submissive bitches. He wants a strong woman like Olivia. To dominate him.Well, now. This IS a refreshing read...Thing is, it takes him a while to behave like a sub. While he tries, it's not easy for him. He's used to being in control, and letting go is not easy for men like this. See, men are nurtured in our society to be alphas, to dominate (women), and to own things (and women who, BTW, are NOT things!). Women are nurtured to be submissive. Passive. Obedient. While Oli infuriates him, Lex actually appreciates the fact that she has a backbone. She's a real woman who stands up (for herself), has self esteem, and earned her place in her career and society. She's not backing down any time soon. She even confronts him several times that the contract is misogynist. He can't figure out why she's offended if she'd do something for free. Well because guys, when there's money involved that's when you have officially started treating us as whores, a business transaction. Just do what Oli says to do, maybe ask us out, treat us like PEOPLE, not paperwork. What kind of annoyed me was the Lex and Olivia relationship evolved beyond any type of BDSM. She admits she's never been a dominatrix before and he sucks as a sub. It's OK to learn to be a Dom/Domme as you go, and I did explain why he sucks as a sub, but at least they both tried. Where they did try was hot, but I would have liked to have seen that go further. I would really like a sequel where she is a Domme and he is the perfect counter to her and vice verse.Lex's father is your typical right winger misogynistic piece of trash that probably hates the idea of women even voting. He doesn't see women as people, but as either arm candy or a "business transaction". All he cares about is marrying Lex to a rival to combine assets. But practically selling your kid into an arranged marriage is sexist whether the child is male OR female. That's one thing I like about this book. That sexism goes both ways. When Lex says he's marrying Oli instead she is actually offended by the rapid succession of events. Yeah, I'd be, too. I believe in moving at a romantic and wooing pace. Yes Lex, women DO want a long drawn out courtship. We're not property or investments. We're people and once the courtship stops, well, there's no reason to stay with you b/c then you start acting like jerks. Anyway, Lex's grandfather likes the name Olivia Lyndon and think it sounds powerful. Well it might, but Oli does EXACTLY what I would do! She responds with "Actually I'd keep my last name. I don't believe in branding women as their husband's property." That folks is exactly why women have changed their last names throughout history, and why it needs to stop. Women.Are. NOT.Property! 21st century...and all...(This btw, is what made the book 5 stars)It bothers me that people think Oli is "confrontational" or "immature". This is what happens when all you read is a weak little submissive pushover. A strong woman is not "confrontational" or "immature". It's called being strong and standing up for yourself. If it's ok for men, it's ok for women. The more women have backbones the less people will think this.A surprising and refreshing real in a world that is still (in 2014) pushing female submission. Thank you Ms. Stunich! less
