review 1: Lenora lives in Maryland, Baltimore. Little does she know that one day, just one day, will change her whole life around. Lenora wins the Maryland Lottery for 5 million dollars. The shock makes her literally sick for a week or two. In "money can't buy love by Connie Briscoe," Lenora's decisions about whether to keep her job, which friends are truly her friends and which man is best for her life are only some of the hard decisions she must tackle with a new mindset and a full pocketbook of money. The novel is good. However, it quickly becomes depressing because Lenora turns on a dime making unwise decisions. She throws one friendship, Alisa, over completely. She cheats on her boyfriend with a young guy just because he's good looking and not in his thirties. I took the story s... moreo personally it really was difficult for me to want to set aside time to read it.It seemed too sad. However, the last lines in the novel make the whole book worthwhile. "She had no man and no money. But she had something far more precious. She had her new self--a little older, a little thinner and a whole lot wiser."I started the novel thinking that Lenora's friends Monica, Alisa, Ray, Gerald especially Gerald would cause her the headache she was bound to experience after such a big life change. Then, I thought about it. Really, I believe Lenora caused her own problems. Her fear made her move too quickly to make a decison or move too slowly in making a decision. She didn't gallop like a steady, professional horse. She was all over the race track. Her friends just wanted to help her. Gerald, I feel, was really concerned about her. She couldn't hear him. She had locked him behind the door of no commitment for three years and boring sex.The book made me think about life choices, how they are made. The mistakes all of us are bound to make whether we are rich or poor. I discussed a lot of the novel with my husband. He likes to hear about lottery stories and how people deal with their new wealth. I think this book would make a great and fun book club choice. I don't think there would be a dull moment in the room. Connie Briscoe writes it in a way that your mind just opens up with "what ifs, should haves, ought tos, etc. I did some pretty wild thinking while reading it like what would Lenora do if she won the lottery for a second time for even more money. My last thought is Lenora should have let Ray go the moment he put her in bed of a pickup truck to have intimate moments. At first, I thought how romantic. No. When he met her in the back of the truck over and over again, he didn't have respect for her. He was using her. He ended up getting a fine black....well, you read it and see what he gets from Lenora. Anyway, sadly, along the way Lenora lost her self respect. If you can't respect yourself, who will respect you? Well, definitely not your boss. Dawna is Lenora's boss. That's whole other mixed up, bungled mess. Anyway, it'a a Good book.amazonkeywords=connie+briscoe+books&tag
review 2: Sadly this wasn't one of her best...we needed at least 25-30 more pages to flesh out the story...Like was Gerald cheating with Robin, and what happened after Lenora lost the $$$. Where'd she move to? Did her so called friends ever come back around or were they jealious? Did she find another job? Way too many lose ends and this isn't how Ms Brisco rites...For a Gr8t book on winning the lotery and it's aftermath, ...Read 1 in a million much better, fleshed out story.... less

A fast read. Was it earth shattering? No, but a good storyline.
