“She deserved it all. After the shit she’d been through she deserved a prince and I wasn’t one of those.”
One memory.
One special summer.
The one thing Bliss had lost herself in when the fear and sickness were too much, moments never to be damaged by the harsh reality that followed… until now.
Bliss York didn’t live a normal teenage life. She didn’t go to Friday night football games, walk the halls with her friends every day, go to her prom or even walk to receive her diploma. It had all been taken from her the fall that she was fifteen years old and she was given the diagnosis no one ever wants to hear.
She had leukemia.
Seven years after spending a summer with a girl who he knew would always be his first love and the one who got away, Nate Finlay returns to Sea Breeze to help his fiancé open her new boutique clothing store. When the new employee walks in Nate is taken back seven years to the girl he thought he’d love forever. The one who never answered his calls or returned his text. The one who shut him out completely with not even a goodbye and broke his heart.
They’ve each become someone different. No longer the young teens with stars in their eyes. But does that matter when your heart still says that’s the one.
“I’d win. I always did. But this wasn’t a game I would play.”
Abbig Glines is one of my all time favorite authors, there’s just something about her books that really make me happy. It started when I read Fallen Too Far and started to dig into the world of New Adult Romance. I realized this was a genre and that I loved it. So I credit Abbi with my love of New Adult Romance novels, there’s just something about the drama and the sex and all the stuff in between that just hooks me.
Abbi’s books are amazing because every time I read them I feel like I’m watching a soap opera, I love that it’s all about this group of friends in a small town and that you’re watching their relationships, problems, and interactions. Like I said, there’s just something about these books that get to me.
That being said, this book has all the classic Abbi staples; beautiful and perfect woman with a tragic past, a sexy playboy who is instantly smitten by said perfect girl, interference from friends/family/tragic past, and of course the magnificent sex scenes. So, naturally, I loved it. I was so excited for this book seeing as how it was a combination of both of my favorite series of hers, but while I loved this book I gave it 4 roses because I do have some issues with it that I can’t pretend didn’t bother me.
I know that these three things can make it seem as though I didn’t like this but the reality is that I loved it. I love the way Abbi’s books make me feel and all the drama and relationships, I just always immensely enjoy her books no matter what. I just feel like my reading skills have evolved and it’s just a little harder for me to just ignore certain things, especially now that I analyze things for this blog.
A lot of the reviews for this book on Goodreads said that they didn’t like Nate because he wasn’t as strong or manly as the other men in Abbi’s book but I didn’t see it that way. He was confused, he didn’t think he was ready for all the emotions and work that goes into a real loving relationship and I don’t think that makes him less than any of Abbi’s other male characters. Was he the most swoon worthy of them all? No, but he certainly wasn’t terrible either.
This wasn’t my absolute favorite Abbi Glines book, but it had all the things I love from her all wrapped up in one. I will be reading the other books in this mash-up series and can’t wait to see more.
