review 1: The Unfortunate Son is historical fiction book, and it takes place in the time of the 1500's. A boy named Luc is born with only one ear, on the right side of his head. He lives with his family, and he takes care of the pigs for a family with a farm. Luc finds out that his family might not be his actually family. He then joins the family that owns the farm, and becomes an apprentice to the fisherman that lives there. He seems to be a good luck charm, for their family never received that many fish before. But his luck does not last.My favorite part of this book was when Luc joins the new family.If you love historical fiction, then you will love this book.
review 2: Historical fiction with romance and adventure in a mix that will appeal to anyone who likes storie... mores set in the Middle Ages. Luc is born with a deformity and his evil father casts him out of his castle. Luc's life is tumultuous, but he is grounded by time spent with the kind fisherman Pons, his sister Mattie and their beautiful ward Beatrice (who is also cast-out royalty!). Luc is kidnapped, made a slave in northern Africa, and must determine his own fate more than once. I suspect kids in grades 5 and up will eat this one up. less
