review 1: This is an ARC I received at ALA Midwinter in Philadelphia and I enjoyed seeing how Tabitha grows with losing her friends, having a secret relationship with a guy (who is already taken) and joining Life By Committee. Life By Committee is a secret group Tabitha comes across in a book she has read where people write notes in the margins. You have to share a secret with this group and they will challenge you to finish an assignment. This group comes at a time when Tab has lost her childhood friends, has a single friend who is gay (and keeping it a secret) so the committee becomes very, very, very important to her. As she shares secrets and risks alot to finish assignments, Tab really begins to question who she is, who she has become and if these people are really her new ... morefriends. The more daring she becomes, the more she loses and this will prompt Tabitha to really question who her friends are and who she wants to be. I loved reading in the acknowledgments that Patricia McCormick was an adviser and mentor; wow what a great author to work with, great work, Corey---looking forward to more works from you! Your characters and their problems were real, teens will most certainly relate!
review 2: I really enjoyed this book! I picked it up on a whim, but ended up falling in love with Haydu's writing style and character development. The idea of the LBC is completely relevant, and Tabitha is wholly relatable. Even in the more whimsical moments of this story, I found myself convinced and swept away by the story. There is some grit of reality and enough familiar high school woes to ground this novel for readers, but it is swept away by magical elements of love, internet companionship, and secret-sharing that are rewarding and beautiful to read. less
