review 1: My So-Called Family was a pretty interesting book because the characters were so life like. I also liked the fact that I could connect with the main character in the book. For example,"I wondered what would happen if I just opened my mouth and screamed. Right there in the middle of class. It would be so easy to do. No one was stopping me. I wondered what it would sound like. I don't think I've ever just opened my mouth and screamed like that. Instead I just sat there with my lips pressed together"(pg 139). I always wondered how people would react if I did something totally random,although I never end up doing it. This quote lets the reader relate to the book and the character, like I did.
review 2: My so-called Family by Courtney Sheinmel is a great book beca... moreuse I found the story quit unique since I have never read anything from such perspective. Leah’s mother had Leah through a sperm donor. Which mean Leah doesn’t know anything about her biological father except he is donor 730. Her mother got married and Leah has a loving step-father and a half brother. Her mom thought she has given Leah the perfect environment but when Leah is getting older she develop curiosity on the donor. Even though she has a look upon great family but Leah doesn’t feel fitting in at home or in school. As a result Leah start searching information about donor 730 and she found our, she have more half siblings out in this world. This book opens a new perspective for me because I barely hear anything about children from donor around me or know how they feel about their identity. less
