review 1: A great book. A straight-forward, direct admonition advocating a delicate balance between being in the world but not of the world. Groeschel unabashedly addresses difficult topics such as entertainment, money-usage, and fear. He advocates meaningful change, and gives ideas but wisely allows each person to formulate a personalized approach to accountability and steps of change. Groeschel also addresses the delicate line between legalism and sanctified living, without setting firm lines in the sand. Excellent read. Some of the subjects discussed are more appropriate for adult readers. Certainly an individual read.
review 2: This book wasn't what I expected at all. I thought Groeschel was going to be more strict on instructions to cleansing your soul. I was wrong.... more He brought to the readers attention the many toxins all around you in everyday life in such a down to earth everyday people kind of way. In almost all of his examples he expresses how he has related to that situation in one way or another. Groeschel was a tad repetitive at times but that could be beneficial for someone reading the book too quickly. There will likely be a couple of subjects that you may already feel you have control over and therefore the book might seem a bit boring at times. My advice is to push through because the very next subject is probably going to be exactly what you need to read. I definitely laughed quite a few times. There is truth in this book and explanations with scriptures to back everything up he talks about. I highly recommend this book to every believer and hope that even if its only one thing they can take from it, that it will be something that can impact their whole life. I took a lot of insight from this and am grateful for my young adult pastor for doing a lesson on this book. I am praying this very instant that whoever comes across this book will be blessed in any way through what they read. less
