review 1: This wan't my cup of tea as X-Men stories go. The story came off so excessively violent at times that it came off like cheap shock value. It reminded me of Fan fiction I've read. It felt like the writer is really trying, but not sure what to do with this story. Clayton Crain's art didn't help. I get he was trying to be very stylized and experimental, but it made it hard to figure what was going on on some pages. It seemed like there was quite a bit more sinister violence targeted at Wolfsbane. While X-23 was criticized for her violent behavior to the enemy. I wasn't liking how the women in this book are treated. Wolverine was portrayed as everything he did was perfect no matter what he did...Warpath was the only reason I kept reading to be honest! His character wa... mores treated well, handled all the situations the best he could and still came off like a good guy with a soul. He manages keep his humanity. I feel like Warpath's characterization is what Marvel thinks they do with Wolverine, but fail. Warpath can be a badass, brutal killing machine, but he has lines he will not cross. He has a code he lives by and he does it well. He' can also still be fun, entertaining and engaging to read! If I ever read anymore of this series it would just be for Warpath. He was the only good part. Marvel needs to use him more often!
review 2: A little muddled and not super clear, it suffered from all of its characters being rich with story to mine. Lots of gore and death, as promised, but I didn't necessarily buy what made this event need deadly force any more than all the other x-men encounters. Even though I don't quite understand what happened with Angel, that part was rad. Is he not a mutant then? It also serves as a good diving board for the rest of the series but falls into the trap of having to know obscure details of the marvel universe. less
