Nov’17 Wrap Up

I’m back on track finally. So i had a good reading month in November. I ended up reading a  total of 4 books this month and to my surprise i am really proud of the choices of my books. So let just get into this Wrap Up.

Read this month:

Stalking Jack the Ripper by  Kerri Maniscalco

Series: Stalking Jack the Ripper  #1

Genres: Historical Fiction, Mystery, Young Adult

Rating: 4.5/5

So this book is an historical fiction, murder mystery, steam punksque story that I absolutely loved. We follow Audrey Rose she out-rightly defines societal norms and helps her uncle in performing postmortem dissections of young women who are victims of Jack the Ripper. She along with her uncles student Thomas tries to solve the murder case and catch the culprit.
Audrey Rose is a absolute kick ass character she was just like her name Rose was sweet and kind along with going about doing dissections which was not appreciated by the society. Thomas just was like Sherlock. If fact their story was like that of Sherlock and Watson dynamic. Their dialogues and constant banter was so much fun to read.
I love how the author stayed true to the historical context in terms of the date, the names of the victims of Jack the Ripper.
I absolutely loved the reveal of who the murdered was. The build up, the atmosphere the setting was great. Im so looking forward to reading more from Kerri Maniscalco.
There was a lot of bloody gore in this book. This is made for a perfectly spooky Halloween read.

Heir Of Fire by Sarah J. Maas

Series: Throne Of Glass #3

Genres: Young Adult, Fantasy, Magic

Rating: 4/5

Picking up right after the bomb dropped in the previous book. It’s Cealena journey rediscovering herself. I really like Cealena through she is a badass she does show her soft side too. I did struggle to like Chaol in this one. Dorian i really liked where his plot was going. There are so many additional charaters in this one. Out of which i like Sorscha the healer and Manon the witch and Aedion who i feel is going play a key role in the rest of the books to come. Rowan where do i start i see why everyone likes him. Completely disliked him in the beginning but he is starting to grow on me.
I like Sarah J Maas writing style. Absolutely love the way she tells the story with different point of views in a single chapter. It just switches views based on where you are and what she wants us to see which helps us see every side of things which works really well for this story. Her style is very engaging and shes really able to bring the characters to life. She brings this whole elaborate world full of magic onto the pages.
Coming to the plot it was very slow a little tedious a little monotonous. Not a lot happened for a really long time. So reading this was really taking up a lot of time. It had the middle book syndrome. it was more like a bridge book, just setting up for the next one. So overall this books tells us a lot about the history of the world and sets up story for the future.

Poison Study by Maria V. Snyder

Series: Poison Study #1

Genres: Young Adult, Fantasy, Fiction

Rating: 4/5

This starts of very similar to Thorne of Glass. Yelena is convicted of a crime and given a choice. She chooses to be a poison taster for the commander rather than a execution.
There was so much growth ti Yelena character. From being innocent and being easily manipulated to a badass heroine. Valek was great. He was honestly in the perfect. He is also captain of the guard or the most trusted man by the Commander and the one teaching Yelena about poisons. And whenever she is in near death situation she has the buzzing power to her(*Magic*). The plot consists her being pushed into a world of politics, schemings and poisons, and she eventually has to face her worst nightmares and find the strength to confront them.
Poison Study takes you through a very fascinating adventure. I even liked how a slow burner the romance between Yelena and Valek was.
I am definitely picking up the sequel soon.

Carry On by Rainbow Rowell

Genres: Young Adult, Fantasy, Fiction, Romance

Rating: 4/5

In a Harry Potter world where there is a love story between Harry and Draco that’s Carry On for you.
The story was between Simon and Baz, they are enemies (or are they?) The initial part was a bit dragging. But enter BAZ and the pace of the story completely shifts. I loved the story of being in love/ or not.
The magic in this world is full of idioms and Cliche. At times things got silly but Rainbow Rowell didn’t hold back from creating the world she envisioned.
Some of the plots left me a little confused.
But still all in all a super, fun, fluffy read.

I have pretty much got my reading rhythm back just need to stick to it. I loved the books.
