Were Chronicles
review 1: This is book three in the Were Chronicles. While each book is about a different couple and can be read as stand alone novellas, there are continuing story arcs through the series. Many characters also reoccur so it is helpful to read them in order. Adam is a newly appointed alpha of his pack. When a pack mate asks for help concerning her sister he doesn’t hesitate to lend a hand. Tasha has been raising her sister alone for several years. Now that she has run away, Tasha decided to get help form the alpha to find her and bring her home. When she meets the alpha in person, after watching him from afar for years, there is an instant chemistry that neither can deny. Adam doesn’t often feel like an alpha in this book. I think that stems from his character being unsu... morere if he is ready for the position so he doesn’t take the lead in group settings and has moments of doubt. When he’s with Tasha, however, he is very much the alpha. He ties her up, spanks, her and…does other yummy sexual stuff that they both enjoy very much. But he did let her push him around a bit which was nice because he wanted her to feel comfortable with him. I felt like it showed how strong she was as well to be able to take him on and even take the lead. There isn’t a very intense plot with this short. Basically Tasha’s sister ran away, they go get her and spend time at another pack so the sister can talk to another non-shifting wolf. It all takes place over just a few days so things were a bit rushed. I would have like for more time between Tasha and Adam when they weren’t tearing up the sheets or forest. There are several times when they are traveling by car and I think that could have been used to have some get to know you chats but all Tasha did was sleep. It was a little disappointing. I am enjoying this series. I love how all the characters keep popping up in each others books. There are a lot of them so I don’t always remember details about each character but Smith does a nice job of giving a brief description of who’s who so the reader doesn’t get too overwhelmed. I am looking forward to reading more in this series.
review 2: As always Ms Smith tells a mean story, and my lower rating has more to do with the length of the tale rather than the quality of the novella as a whole. It is a continuation of the saga involving problems between the human community and shifter society--between those who want to see shifters enslaved for science and others who want them to own up to their presence in the midst of human society. It is another love story involving a new pack alpha who finds his mate but who must deal with her teen daughter's difficulties and his father's on-going depression. So unexpected twists and turns here but a really fun read and one that won't represent a major time commitment. less
