review 1: I enjoyed this IR tale. I like the role reversal in that her family was rich when they were growing up, but that she was not spoiled and he was the bad influence on her and his parents were against them but not because of the usual issues of race but his family and their standing in town. I also like that while race was discussed in the book it was not a stumbling block or hindrance; it just is and the African American heroine is very sure of their love while the hero knows he loves her does not even know himself. It was a great book; i am afraid to say more and give away the plot.
review 2: This one was a bit difficult to rank. On the one hand, the author's technical writing and storytelling ability is MUCH higher than the majority of the romances I have had t
... morehe displeasure of perusing. There is a lot going for it that will work with many readers. On the other hand, parts of the story just didn't work for me. Major parts. Essentially, any part where the main characters were grown up. How many times did I wish that this was a YA romance rather than an adult one? Each flashback felt genuine, emotional, and intense. Innocence meshed with heartbreak, forbidden love between a rich black princess and white trailer trash...total guilty pleasure! But inevitably, it went back to the present day, where the teenagers of the past have grown up into unrecognizeable, and frankly rather bland and annoying people with no chemistry.Additionally, near the end, there was a play that the main hero acted in that was transcribed word-by-word....I skipped over that part. So all in all, promising, but missing something that would have made it truly good. less
