The Sixth Gun

review 1: One must certainly respect how Oni Press does business. While Marvel and DC are preoccupied with rehashing the same nonesense over and over again, Oni focuses on original creator-driven projects. In other words, it does things like an indie comic publisher should: from the ground up. That alone makes it unquestioningly relevant. Where Oni Press has succeeded in is making it the go-to place for music lovers to find their indie comics.Amidst all that is The Sixth Gun. A story way out of left field. Let me wrap things up in as neatly as possible. Taking place in a post-civil war wild west, The Sixth Gun is a story of a cursed civil war general who is brought back from the dead to retrieve the last of the mystical six guns that were given to him by some supernatural force. Eac... moreh gun gives a dark power to its carrier, this sixth one revealing elements of the future.Caught up in all this mess are young country girl Becky (who unknowingly inherits this gun from her stepfather) and Drake (a mercenary who needs the gun for ulterior motives) who are on the run from the General and his goons. So, cowboys, witchcraft, and the undead. Got it?The Sixth Gun reads as fun as it sounds, and while most stories of this nature slowly pace and develop over time, writer Cullen Bunn lets it all hang loose, and stories that would normally take entire arcs to tell, he does in a single issue. As such, the Sixth Gun is fast-paced, fresh, and most definitely an intriguing read.
review 2: This came out of the gate with great art, intrigue, great characters and a dark mood.A horror western.Woohoo.And, even cooler, it is mature without vulgarity or overtly explicit violence.The final books were not as good as the precursors as it moved from good storytelling to hyperaction mode. The art diminished at the end as it became too much spectacle.I still have high hopes as the story is great and I am looking forward to see what happens to everyone.Great start less
