review 1: Kate Jennings has gotten an unexpected windfall from her grandmother and was told to do something "fun" with it. Fed up with her love life in London, she takes a six month sabbatical from her job and buys a "fixer-upper" cottage in the country where she spent time with her family as a child. As she refurbishes the cottage (her "Cinderella project") she meets the locals--her quirky but friendly next door neighbor Kay and her family, and the local wealthy estate-owning family, the Blackmores, to whom her cottage had originally belonged. The young widow, Camilla, is all about shopping and spending money, while her stepson, Ed, (who is two years older than her) is trying frantically to keep the estate going. The other stepson, Jack, is a handsome flirt with whom Kate has a... more wonderful time being introduced to the people in the county. But not everyone wants Kate to stay, and various times cruel vandalism is committed on the cottage. As Kate begins to fall in love with Ed, complications arise, especially in the form of Addison, a polished and sophisticated woman with whom Ed had a prior relationship. As Kate works on her Cinderella project, she becomes her own Cinderella project as her life changes and decisions must be made. I had only read Cynthia Harrod-Eagles family series so I was pleasantly surprised to find that she wrote lighter fiction as well. This is an easy read, an enjoyable little romp with good characters, witty dialogue, and wonderful descriptions of the Exmoor region of England. It's a fast read, a bit predictable, but overall very enjoyable.
review 2: This was a delightful, quick read book. Kate has just been burned in a relationship that she thought was the real thing, her grandmother just gave her her inheritance early...so tired of life in London, Kate buys a fixer upper in Exmoor where her father is from and Kate spent many memorable summers. Enter the Blackmoor family and Kate's plan of a simple life restoring her home are turned upside down. Sweeet, enjoyable and worth the time. less

I enjoyed this book, but felt like the end was really, really rushed.
