review 1: I was surprised to really dislike this book. The author just threw a ton of horrible things together for maximum shock factor, all happening to conjoined twin toddlers. The illustrations were interesting, but I didn't really want a visual for the pointless awfulness described. I read the first volume & felt like the author was just being a jerk to her characters for no value except to be liked for referencing "weirdness." I love wackiness, darkness, etc, but I felt this was just an exercise in pointless misery.
review 2: As a fan of Amanda Palmer, I am certainly biased when it comes to judge the Evelyn Evelyn graphic countepart to one of my favourite albums, yet I will venture to heartily recommend it far and wide. This is certainly a tragic tale of two conjoin... moreed twins who run into some of the foulest aspects of contemporary humanity from their very first day... at points, the reader may find that the sheer nature and amount of their suffering and bad luck is almost unbelievable, yet the visual recreation of the twins' songs (or, if you prefer, of Amanda Palmer's and Jason Webley's) is a truly beautiful work, never quite losing the Evelyn Evelyn's innocence. And that's perhaps the best way to describe this book: as the struggle of the innocent to overcome a world of depravity and suffering. less
