review 1: This story held potential, it really did! Amara had spunk, and I was relatively interested in the lives/drama of those around her. However, there were too many problems. I don't enjoy rapey male characters, especially if they later "seduce" their victim into sex. I don't enjoy random murder and gore when it doesn't actually move the plot forward. And I don't enjoy possessiveness, ever; it's an unhealthy way to approach a relationship, so I hate to see it used to advance a plot.
review 2: Well, this is another gem that I discovered for free on B&N. This is the first in the series with two more books that follow. The cover does not do the book justice. I guess it proves - do not judge a book by it's cover. The hero who calls himself Noctis (he has temporary amn
... moreesia and can't even remember his name)is a deranged, insane god seeking revenge against Lucifer who imprisoned him for years in a tomb. He breaks out and finds out that Lucifer took a mortal bride. His plan for revenge is to kidnap her and kill her in front of Lucifer. His plan does not go as planned - he kidnaps the wrong mortal. Instead, he kidnaps the foster daughter to Lucifer's wife Amara. From this point forward they engage in a cat and mouse game. She escapes and is re-captured at least two times. He is ruthless in his pursuit of her. The heroine routinely tries to annoy him. Parts of this book were very funny. In one scene early on, he puts her in a room with a bunch of lycans expecting her to be harmed. He comes back and she has befriended them and is playing strip poker and winning. He is a hero in which you don't know if you like him or you don't, but eventually you do. Gradually, he grows to care for her. He is very sweet to the heroine at times. Deep down he is an honorable man, but has routinely been dealt a bad hand in life. It ends on a cliffhanger so I definitely will be reading the next two books. There also were some interesting secondary characters thrown into the mix. I hope their stories get an ending.Nicole less
