review 1: This is one of those books where as I was reading it I was really liking it and constantly thinking of students I would recommend it to. So in that sense, this was a really good book. The fault of the book is that there are just too many problems in the book. How much bad stuff can happen to one person? But the problems are what makes the book work. There is some mature content that make this a book I would only recommend to grades 9 and up. Oddly, despite the tragedies in the book, this is a nice teen romance. (Also, anyone who has visited Tokyo should read it for the great descriptions of the city and Japanese culture.)
review 2: This book had moments that were pretty good. But overall I was pretty disappointed. First, while there is no typical way a child
... more grieves after losing a parent, the main character's reaction was just not believable. Second, the conflict all wrapped up too neatly...you don't have years of problems with your sister and then within 30 seconds of meeting she explains everything; it was just too neat. I just think this book had potential and it failed to deliver, which is why I gave it only 2 stars. less
