review 1: Dan Kennedy's niche is clear-headed business how-to based on his lifetime of experience as an entrepreneur. In this book he gets to the real reason you have employees, to generate more profits through their work than you could generate without them. Employees are not friends, they are people you pay an investment to with the expectation of getting a greater return. If you don't know your numbers or how the employee contributes to the bottom-line of your business, you need to let them go.Before I read this book, I wanted to have employees because it gave me the impression that I'd made it in business. Kennedy has destroyed this idea and I'll now be careful before I hire anyone. If you have employees, or want to learn the important numbers in your business, then you want to de... morevour this book and practice it every day.
review 2: I have three boxes of management books and 6+ years of trying it all out. While the title of this book may turn a few off, it's the best general book on managing I've ever read; especially for the small business owner that isn't spending government bail-out money.Too many of the books out there are written by academia that think BIG business OWES employees EVERYTHING. You read too many of those books and pretty soon you are asking permission from your employees for everything, paying for some to go through "don't wanna work" therapy on company time, and just "hoping" the others show up so you don't have to throw another team building exercise to get them all excited enough to start working again. In other words - you become the Schmuck (for you Yiddish readers out there!). This book helps give a business owner a spine and the proper focus. I would give half my left limb to have read this book 5 years ago. less
