review 1: So this is the story of a young boy who is brought to live with his grandfather after his mother dies in a car crash and they look for his father who is a pilot of a bomber during WWII.This boy has never met his grandfather who parted ways with his son when he married. The grandfather is a Scrooge character who drives this boy to run away during a blizzard.I read this story in one sitting and couldn't decide whether I should give it two or three stars, but ultimately decided on two because of the great weaknesses of the writing. This would definitely be a guilty pleasure read. This story is predictable and not very original. And the story is written in a Christian Protestant tradition. I'm not a big fan of Christian literature and I don't think it was too overwhelming in t... morehis book, but I did think it was condescending towards Catholics. Finally I thought the ending was just too unrealistic and storybook. It truly turned me off emotionally instead of the reaction he was looking for in a reader. All who love happy endings and they lived happily ever after will like this book.A good Christmas read despite it all.
review 2: My book club had chosen another book by Mr. Walsh, but I couldn't find it at local library overdrive, and I wasn't sure I wanted to invest in the book from Amazon...so I borrowed two other books (including this one) written by Walsh. This was a nice story, but so predictable. From the very start I knew the ending and I wasn't disappointed...was what I thought it would be.Did love how forgiveness was discussed in this book, and I fell in love with the little boy Patrick. His parents, especially mom, taught him well about living a Christ like life.I would recommend this book to young readers. less

A heartwarming, fairly predictable book set during the Christmas season.
