review 1: This is the second book I've read featuring Kate an independent and capable detective in the Alaskan back-country, and I'll be looking forward to the next in the series. If you like Nevada Barr books as I do you may also appreciate these books by Dana Stabenow. Navada Barr's crime novels feature a no-longer-young female park ranger in different National Parks. In both series the park and the local characters make for interesting reading. Both series also have love interest and family to keep things real.This was a first for me. I read the entire e-book on my smart phone. I had wanted to use an e-reader but did not have wifi where I was spending the weekend and so could not download it from my library to my nook.
review 2: I had read most of the Kate Shugak b... moreooks several years ago, first in random order from the library and then as I found them second hand. Recently I got my husband hooked on them and bought all of them for our Kindles. As I have been reading them in order I find I read them for the personalities of the characters more than for the mysteries involved. I am as short as Kate Shugak. I wish I were as strong, as self-disciplined, and self-sufficient. Kate lives the adventurous life for me. less
