review 1: A short and embarrassingly honest look at the love life (mostly lack thereof) of two intelligent but emotionally hung-up and overwhelmingly self-depreciative people. After all, who wants to worry themselves with dating when its clear that you are the worst person ever to waste this world and everyone else's time? Daniel Clowes gets alienation, loneliness and awkwardness, though who the hell is happy with being able too admit that they can relate with lifelong feelings of inadequacy?
review 2: I liked this book, but reading the rest of the reviews on this page made me question this (I guess it is a little overproduced for something so short, and heavy on self-loathing)! Although it is a short story, it is long enough to give a sketch of some the issues one can a
... moreccumulate as an older, single person. The man and woman in the story are people who have a lot of baggage but are accepting of each others' baggage, it is quite a hopeful and nice thing to read. I think he depicts awkward situations well and accurately, I don't know if it was laugh out loud funny, but it was quite charming. I saw the movie Ghost World, and saw echoes of some of the sentiments from that...Being an outsider and proud of it, etc...I liked the full page pictures without text interspersed in it, there was a nice one of him walking down the street at night with coloured boxes abstractly representing lit up buildings. I would be interested to read another book by Clowes! less

Yeah, we all get old and boring. That's not why I read Clowes, though.
