Once Upon A Time
review 1: This four-chapter graphic novel was published by Marvel & ABC as a companion piece to the TV show "Once Upon A Time." It tells a small piece of the story about the relationship between the Evil Queen and the Huntsman, taking place prior to what we have seen on the show. If you are not a fan of the show, I think the story would be a bit confusing and there's not enough conflict/catalyst to make it interesting. Even as a fan of the show, I didn't think there was anything of significance revealed in the story. Also, I don't like it when graphic novels use different artists for each chapter (seven different artists are credited on the title page). I just expect chapters, in any book format, to foster continuity and cohesion of the story as a whole. The jarring discontinuity be... moretween the artwork in chapter 1 and chapter 2 made me a little angry. With the exception of ch 2, I liked each art style individually (can't decide if ch 1 or 4 is my favorite). I feel like the stark changes in art styles took away from what could have been a visually-stunning work. Despite the low rating and negative comments, I am glad I read it as a fan of the show. I would read future installments, in hopes that some new nugget of backstory would be revealed. And Marvel, for the love, let one or two artists do the whole book.
review 2: This is an interesting story that fits perfectly into Once Upon A Time continuity without contradicting anything, whilst adding some layers to the Huntsman/Regina relationship. Considering the Huntsman didn't get much time to shine in the series, it's nice that we have this book in that respect. The downfall is that there are 4 different artists on the story, and whilst they're all at the very least decent, there's no visual continuity between chapters. If one of them had drawn the entire book (Mike Del Mundo would be my choice, of the four), then this would probably have gained another star. less

Quick and easy read with great artwork from Marvel artists. Great backstory of our beloved Huntsman.

Read this while waiting for the Plummer to arrive. Not bad, certainly short.

I did not like the changing of illustrators for every chapter.
