review 1: Actual rating - 2.5 starsWell as I write the review for this book I am at a loss as to how I feel about it... On the one hand it was interesting and different to what I normally would read - a story about high school zombies .... On the other hand it was weird and why these American teens are being resurrected was never stated. The story - through a number of overly simplified stereotypes and cliches tells the story of Phoebe and Tommy Willams - the 'differently biotic' boy who may just steal her heart away. The pair, along a number of other traditional and different biotic students attend Oakvale High - the country's leading school for the undead. .... At first glance the book seems quite appealing - the traditional boy meets girl, high school love story - just with a dea... mored kid as one of the main characters. It was an ok book - I don't think I will be rushing off to finish the series - despite the open ending and the slight undead problem that arose in the final moments. Lastly, I didn't really see the 'John Green meets Stephanie Meyer' that the cover promise me - just saying.
review 2: I absolutely love the idea that this book is based on but it's so badly written. Taking the zombie we know and giving it a different eye, integrating it into 21st century and looking the prejudices against them all seem like a good idea that could provoke thought, except this book offers the readers NOTHING they couldn't find in pretty much another type of the same genre. I /could/ ignore all that if the plot was a little more interesting. It was very Twilight-esque(?) and everything lacked depth. I'm just disappointed at such a good idea being ruined by such dull writing. The only character I could remotely stand was Adam.(But kudos on the cover art. I can't stop staring at it.) less
