review 1: So, I guess that I'm glad I looked at these, but they aren't nearly as fun as I hoped they'd be. These aren't even really novellas, which is how they're sold in the blurbs. What they are is expanded treatments of the stories that would go on to be the movies "After the Thin Man" and "Another Thin Man." They're well-plotted, as I expected from Hammett, but they don't flow very well. There are even bits of stage direction and scene setting that are left in place. This gets a low score just because the readability of the stories is impacted by this style of presentation.

... mored give this a try when I saw it in the library. What you get is two screen stories which consist of mainly dialogue with some scene setting and an eight page outline of another story. It took me a while to get into the rhythm of the writing as these are not stories as such but when I did I found the two screen stories charming and enjoyable. I confess that I did not understand the eight page outline though! less

Slight but quite fun - taken from work Hammett did for movie sequels - some no more than outlines.
